The life

Anna Katharine Green was an American writer who published The Leavenworth Case in 1878, nine years before Sherlock Holmes, and is called the mother of the detective novel. A lawyer's daughter, she got her procedure right, and Wilkie Collins admired her; the Pennsylvania legislature is said to have debated the book's plausibility. She also created two early women detectives, Amelia Butterworth and Violet Strange.
