Apuleius

1 volume Adventure & the Sea

The life

Apuleius was a Roman writer and orator from North Africa, active in the second century AD. He was tried for using magic to win a wealthy widow's hand and defended himself in a speech that survives. The Golden Ass, the only Latin novel to come down to us complete, is a bawdy, inventive tale of a man turned into a donkey, and holds the earliest full telling of Cupid and Psyche.
