Arthur Christopher Benson

Arthur Christopher Benson wrote the words to Land of Hope and Glory, was Master of Magdalene College, Cambridge, and kept a diary of four million words — the longest in English. His gentle essays on the inner life sold enormously to readers who had no idea their author spent years at a time paralysed by depression. His brothers Robert Hugh and E. F. Benson were novelists too.
