The life

Arthur Quiller-Couch was a Cornish writer and critic who published as Q, edited The Oxford Book of English Verse — which shaped English taste for half a century — and became the first professor of English literature at Cambridge. He finished Stevenson's unfinished St Ives, and his lectures On the Art of Writing are still quoted for the advice to murder your darlings.
