The life
Emanuel (1888–1951) sold literature by the ton: his Little Blue Books, five cents each, put Shakespeare and Darwin into the overalls pockets of American workmen — some three hundred million copies. Marcet (1887–1941) was Jane Addams's niece, ran a Kansas bank, and acted on the stage. They married, hyphenated their names in both directions, and wrote novels together about the Kansas dust they lived in.
