The life

E. M. Forster was an English novelist whose father died when he was a baby, leaving him to be raised by women and an inheritance from a great-aunt that freed him to write. Five novels came in fifteen years, then A Passage to India in 1924 and no more fiction for forty-six years. Maurice, written in 1913, was published only after his death, as he had always intended.
