E. R. Punshon

E. R. Punshon spent years as a labourer in Canada and America before settling to write detective novels — some seventy of them, most featuring Bobby Owen, a constable who climbs to commander over thirty-five books. He reviewed crime fiction for the Manchester Guardian for two decades, and Dorothy L. Sayers admired him: he wrote, she said, with a genuine ear for how people speak.
