The life

Edward Sylvester Ellis was an Ohio schoolteacher who sold his first dime novel at twenty and never stopped, turning out hundreds under a dozen names while serving as a school principal. The Steam Man of the Prairies put a steam-powered mechanical man on the frontier in 1868 and effectively invented American science fiction's boy-inventor tradition, the line that runs straight to Tom Swift.
