Elizabeth Prentiss

Elizabeth Prentiss was an American minister's wife who lost two children in a single year and wrote out of that grief the hymn More Love to Thee, O Christ. Stepping Heavenward, the diary-novel of a headstrong girl growing into faith, sold in the hundreds of thousands and was read aloud in Protestant households on both sides of the Atlantic for decades after her death.
