The life
F. Scott Fitzgerald was an American novelist and short-story writer who both chronicled and embodied the Jazz Age. Success came at twenty-three with This Side of Paradise, followed by The Great Gatsby (1925), now regarded as a defining American novel though it sold poorly in his lifetime. His later years were marked by his wife Zelda's illness and his own decline; he died at forty-four believing himself a failure.
