François Coppée

François Coppée was a French poet, dramatist and novelist called the poet of the humble for his verse about clerks, seamstresses and the Paris poor. Enormously popular in his day and elected to the Académie française at forty-two, he later became a fierce nationalist and anti-Dreyfusard, which cost him the esteem of younger writers.
