The life

George W. Gough was an English novelist of the early twentieth century, remembered for The Yeoman Adventurer (1917), a tale of the Jacobite rising of 1745 told by a young Staffordshire farmer swept into the Young Pretender's march on Derby. Like many popular storytellers of his generation he left little personal record behind, and his dates are not reliably known.
