The life

Gustave Droz trained as a painter and exhibited at the Salon for a decade before a magazine asked him for sketches of married life. Monsieur, Madame et Bébé — tender, funny and just risqué enough to be passed around — went through more than a hundred editions and made him one of the most read men in France. He wrote little else and returned, contentedly, to painting.
