The life

J. Storer Clouston was a Scottish writer from Orkney, a barrister who turned to comic fiction with The Lunatic at Large and its sequels — farces about an escaped madman that were filmed repeatedly. He served in naval intelligence in the Great War, wrote detective novels as well, and became a serious historian of Orkney, sitting as convener of its county council.
