The life

James Grant was a Scottish novelist who produced some ninety books, most of them military adventures drawn from a soldier's eye for detail; he had served in the 62nd Regiment of Foot before turning to writing. A descendant of Sir Walter Scott's family line, he also founded the National Association for the Vindication of Scottish Rights, campaigning against the neglect of Scotland's heraldry and history.
