The life

Jeffery Farnol worked as a scene painter in New York theatres and wrote his first novel on scraps between shifts, after a brass foundry in Birmingham fired him for insubordination. The Broad Highway made him rich overnight in 1910. He went on to sell millions with Regency road-and-tavern adventures full of prizefighters, highwaymen and gentlemen in disguise, and was still writing them when he died.
