John Oliver Hobbes

John Oliver Hobbes was the pen name of Pearl Richards Craigie, an American-born writer raised in London who published epigrammatic novels and plays in the 1890s. She studied at University College London, converted to Catholicism after a bitter divorce, and set her fiction among politics and high society. She died suddenly at thirty-eight, at the height of her reputation.
