Justin H. McCarthy

Justin Huntly McCarthy sat in Parliament for Irish Home Rule, then left politics for the theatre and the historical romance. If I Were King, his tale of François Villon crowned king for a week, was a hit for actor E. H. Sothern and returned as the operetta The Vagabond King. His father, also Justin McCarthy, was the better-known historian — a confusion the son never entirely escaped.
