The life

Marcel Proust was a French novelist who spent the last years of his life in a cork-lined bedroom in Paris, writing through the night to escape noise and asthma. In Search of Lost Time, published in seven volumes from 1913, was refused by the first publishers who saw it; Proust paid for the opening volume himself. It is now considered one of the supreme achievements of the modern novel.
