The life

Maurice Hewlett was an English novelist, essayist and poet who worked as Keeper of the Land Revenue Records before The Forest Lovers made him famous in 1898. He wrote lush historical romances of medieval Italy and England, and later a long poem in praise of the English farm labourer that he considered his real achievement. His son Maurice was a pioneer of British aviation.
