The life

Maurice Leblanc was a French writer who worked without much notice for years until a magazine asked him, in 1905, for a crime story. The result introduced Arsène Lupin, the gentleman burglar, and made Leblanc famous for the rest of his life. Conan Doyle's lawyers objected when Lupin crossed paths with a detective named Herlock Sholmes; Leblanc simply changed the spelling.
