Mór Jókai

Mór Jókai was a Hungarian novelist and the voice of his nation, who read out the demands of the 1848 revolution on the steps of the Pest museum and was saved from execution afterwards by his actress wife, who rode through the lines with a pardon. He wrote more than a hundred novels of Hungarian history and Transylvanian adventure, and sat in parliament for decades.
