Mrs. Henry Wood

Mrs. Henry Wood was an English novelist who wrote lying on a couch, curved from childhood by a spinal condition, and produced some forty books. East Lynne (1861) sold half a million copies and became the great stage melodrama of the age — the line Dead! and never called me mother! comes from an adaptation, not the book. She owned and edited the magazine Argosy for the last twenty years of her life.
