The life

Philippe de Massa was a cavalry officer and marquis who wrote revues for the private theatres of the Second Empire, entertaining the court he belonged to. Zibeline, a novel of Paris society and its obligations, came late in a life spent mostly on horseback and in salons. Fought at Sedan; wrote his memoirs of a vanished world.
