R. D. Blackmore

R. D. Blackmore was an English novelist who grew fruit for a living in Teddington and wrote in the evenings, insisting the market garden mattered more. Lorna Doone, rejected everywhere and ignored on publication, became one of the best-loved novels in English and made Exmoor a tourist destination. He resented that no one read his other fourteen books.
