Robert Hichens

Robert Hichens was an English novelist and music critic who made his name at twenty-nine with The Green Carnation, an anonymous satire on Oscar Wilde and Lord Alfred Douglas so exact that it was withdrawn during Wilde's trial. He went on to write lush bestsellers of Egypt and the desert, above all The Garden of Allah, and spent his last decades in Switzerland.
