Robert W. Chambers

Robert W. Chambers was an American writer who trained as an artist in Paris before turning to fiction. The King in Yellow (1895), a set of linked tales about a play that drives its readers mad, became his lasting achievement and a direct influence on H. P. Lovecraft and later weird fiction. He spent the rest of his long career writing popular romances that outsold it but are now largely forgotten.
