Thérèse Bentzon

Thérèse Bentzon was Marie-Thérèse Blanc, one of the most powerful critics in France: her reviews in the Revue des Deux Mondes introduced Mark Twain, Bret Harte and Henry James to French readers. She travelled America alone in the 1890s to report on its women's clubs and colleges, and wrote novels of her own, quietly, under the name that made her famous.
