The life

William Harrison Ainsworth was an English novelist who briefly outsold Dickens and wrote thirty-nine novels, most of them historical. Rookwood gave Dick Turpin the ride to York that never happened but is now inseparable from the legend, and Jack Sheppard was blamed for a murder and nearly banned. He edited Bentley's Miscellany after Dickens left it.
