Clara Burnham was a composer’s daughter and a trained musician who wrote some forty novels; this one sold enormously to readers who wanted the doctrine in a story rather than a lecture. Illustrated with 48 full-page plates — paintings by Ancher, Hammershøi and Norrman among them.
