Arnold Bennett

Arnold Bennett was an English novelist and journalist from the Staffordshire pottery towns he made his subject in The Old Wives' Tale and the Clayhanger books. He was also a superb popular entertainer, writing thrillers at speed, and a famous man of business who kept an exact tally of his earnings. The omelette named after him was invented at the Savoy, where he stayed while researching a novel.
