The life

Catherine Helen Spence emigrated from Scotland to South Australia at fourteen and became the colony's conscience: Australia's first woman novelist, its first female political candidate, a preacher in a country that barred women from pulpits, and the campaigner who spent forty years arguing for proportional representation. Her face is on the Australian five-dollar note. Clara Morison was written to show Australians their own lives.
