Christopher Morley and Bart Haley

Morley (1890–1957) was a Rhodes Scholar, a founder of the Saturday Review, and the essayist who made bookishness charming to a generation of Americans. Haley (born 1876) was a Philadelphia newspaperman and versifier. Together, in the first year of Prohibition, they wrote a comic fantasy of an America gone dry — a joke made by two men who plainly did not intend to comply.
