The life

Edna Ferber was an American novelist and playwright, a reporter at seventeen, who won the Pulitzer Prize for So Big. Show Boat, Cimarron and Giant all became major films or musicals. A charter member of the Algonquin Round Table, she never married and wrote that her work was her husband; her Jewish immigrant childhood in the Midwest fed everything she wrote about outsiders.
