The life

Emma Wolf was born in San Francisco to French Jewish immigrants, wrote with one arm paralysed from birth, and rarely left the city. Her novels put American Jewish life on the page decades before anyone else bothered — Other Things Being Equal takes on intermarriage in 1892 and refuses the pieties expected of it. She published five books and corresponded with the wider literary world she never travelled to meet.
