Gene Stratton-Porter

Gene Stratton-Porter was an American novelist and naturalist who photographed birds in the Limberlost swamp of Indiana, wading in with a heavy plate camera, and wrote the wetland into fiction so popular that eight of her books were filmed. She used the royalties to fund nature study and to build her own film company in California, and campaigned against the draining of the swamp she loved.
