The life
Joseph Crosby Lincoln was an American writer who made a career out of one small place: Cape Cod, whose retired sea captains, stubborn widows and summer visitors fill some forty novels. Born into a family of shipmasters and orphaned young, he began as a magazine versifier before finding that readers would follow his laconic Yankee talkers anywhere. His books outsold most of his literary contemporaries.
