Mary Roberts Rinehart

Mary Roberts Rinehart was an American writer who trained as a nurse, took up fiction at twenty-seven after a stock crash wiped out her family, and became known as the American Agatha Christie — though she came first. She reported the Great War from the Belgian trenches, the only woman correspondent at the front, and wrote of her mastectomy publicly when no one did.
