Percy Lubbock

Percy Lubbock was an English critic and essayist, a friend of Henry James who edited his letters after his death. The Craft of Fiction (1921) built a theory of the novel out of James's practice — above all the distinction between showing and telling — and taught two generations how to talk about point of view. He also wrote a memoir of Edith Wharton that her friends never forgave.
