S. R. Crockett

Samuel Rutherford Crockett was a Scottish novelist and Free Church minister who gave up the pulpit after his fiction succeeded, and wrote some sixty books in twenty years. A friend of Stevenson, who dedicated a poem to him, he set his best work among the Covenanters and moss-hags of his native Galloway, and was counted with Barrie and Maclaren in the kailyard school he later tried to escape.
