W. H. Hudson

W. H. Hudson was a naturalist and writer born on the Argentine pampas to American settlers, who came to England at thirty-three and spent years in poverty writing about birds. He co-founded the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, and Far Away and Long Ago recalls his childhood among gauchos. Green Mansions made him famous late; Epstein carved his memorial in Hyde Park, and it caused a riot of protest.
