Willa Cather

Willa Cather was an American novelist who moved to the Nebraska prairie at nine, among Czech and Scandinavian homesteaders whose lives became her subject. She wore men's clothes and called herself William in her college years, edited McClure's Magazine in New York, and won the Pulitzer Prize for One of Ours. She ordered her letters destroyed; enough survived to be published in 2013.
