Sowing Seeds in Danny

by Nellie L. McClung 1873–1951

The book, and the century it came out of.

The Watsons are poor, the town is small, and Pearl Watson, aged twelve, has opinions about all of it — while the doctor drinks, the rich woman condescends, and a baby called Danny is raised by committee. McClung wrote comic prairie novels and used the fame to win women the vote in Manitoba; she was one of the Famous Five who took the question of whether women were persons to the Privy Council, and won. Illustrated with 60 full-page plates — paintings by Bazille, Edmonds and Ekman among them.

“SO MANY FAITHS—SO MANY CREEDS,— SO MANY PATHS THAT WIND AND WIND WHILE JUST THE ART OF BEING KIND,— IS WHAT THE OLD WORLD NEEDS!”

A note on this edition

Sowing Seeds in Danny, by Nellie L. McClung, complete and unabridged. Spelling and punctuation follow present-day American usage; the sentences, the paragraphs and the voice are the author’s, word for word.

It was written in another era and may carry attitudes a reader today will find dated. They are kept for the sake of the work and do not reflect the views of this house.
