The Devolutionist and the Emancipatrix

by Homer Eon Flint 1888–1924

The book, and the century it came out of.

Two interplanetary romances: a scientist’s mind is projected into a body on a distant world where the ruling class has bred the workers into something less than human, and a second world where the women rule and the men are kept. Flint left school at fourteen and sold these to All-Story in the 1910s, before Gernsback had named the genre; he died at thirty-six under strange circumstances, at the bottom of a canyon in a stolen car. Illustrated with 60 full-page plates — paintings by Moran and Bierstadt among them.

“Remember, now; don’t make a sound, no matter what you see!”

A note on this edition

The Devolutionist and the Emancipatrix, by Homer Eon Flint, complete and unabridged. Spelling and punctuation follow present-day American usage; the sentences, the paragraphs and the voice are the author’s, word for word.

It was written in another era and may carry attitudes a reader today will find dated. They are kept for the sake of the work and do not reflect the views of this house.

Not a mock-up: this page is taken from the finished volume. The ornament above the chapter belongs to its shelf and to no other, the opening letter is set as a drop capital, and the plate below carries the name of the painter and the year.
