A widow’s son and daughter persuade her to move back to the family home she left, and the family — grandfather, cousins, the whole arrangement — closes over them. Yonge lived her whole life in one Hampshire village and taught Sunday school there for seventy-one years; the subtitle is Domineering, and the domineering is done by children who mean nothing but good. Illustrated with 60 full-page plates — paintings by Constable, King and Gastineau among them.
On the afternoon of a warm day in the end of July, an open carriage was waiting in front of the painted toy-looking building which served as the railway station of Teignmouth.
