The Adventures of Sally

by P. G. Wodehouse 1881–1975

The book, and the century it came out of.

A girl comes into a small legacy, backs a friend’s play with it, and discovers what New York does with money and enthusiasm. Wodehouse wrote this in 1922 in the middle of his Broadway years, and Sally is his best straight heroine — the comedy is intact, but she earns her way out, and the man she should not marry is drawn with real cruelty. Illustrated with 60 full-page plates — paintings by Gore, Guillaume and Gildemeester among them.

Sally looked contentedly down the long table.

A note on this edition

The Adventures of Sally, by P. G. Wodehouse, complete and unabridged. Spelling and punctuation follow present-day American usage; the sentences, the paragraphs and the voice are the author’s, word for word.

It was written in another era and may carry attitudes a reader today will find dated. They are kept for the sake of the work and do not reflect the views of this house.
