A rich man’s son puts on a tramp’s clothes to see his own country as the poor see it, and finds a mill town where the water is bad and the company owns the mayor. Holman Day was a Maine newspaperman who filled his books with loggers, drivers and local politicians, and knew precisely how a small city is bought. Illustrated with 60 full-page plates — paintings by Cropsey, Havell and Sonntag among them.
