A priest of the old religion, exiled to the Yucatan colony, is recalled to an Atlantis ruled by an empress who took the throne with her own hands — and the mountains have begun to smoke. Hyne claimed to have visited every country on earth; here he wrote the fall of Atlantis in 1899 as a first-person military memoir, dry and matter-of-fact, which is exactly why it still works when the sea comes in. Illustrated with 60 full-page plates — paintings by Doré, Bogolyubov and Munsterhjelm among them.
