Christie wrote it in the aftermath of the year she vanished for eleven days and the press hunted her; it is a thriller rather than a puzzle, with Bundle Brent driving too fast through most of it. Illustrated with 60 full-page plates — paintings by Harvey, Gilman and Benson among them.
