A relic of the Prophet — a slipper — is brought to London by an archaeologist who dies for it, and a brotherhood with a knife follows it through the museums and the fog. Rohmer created Fu Manchu and made a fortune from him across some forty books and films; this 1913 thriller runs the same machinery, and the reader should see plainly what it does with the East and decide what that is worth. Illustrated with 56 full-page plates — paintings by Toorop, Gude and Zorn among them.
